To size the Hustle Up collar correctly, be sure that the collar is resting at the base of the neck where it would

naturally fall. Attach the leash to the floating metal ring or hook your finger in the ring and give a quick pull at a 45- degree angle. The two D-rings that connect the nylon and chain should not be touching – depending on the size of the dog you should have about an inch sized gap between these rings. It is recommended that the collar be removed when not training.

*Always check every dog’s collar before class

Urban Agility: Controlling dogs up and over obstacles such as picnic tables or benches – have them start this exercise off of umbilical, just holding on the leash. The leash should be positioned between the index finger and thumb (open palm towards the ground). Lead with the open palm in the direction you want the dog to go.

  • Keep up momentum to encourage the dog over

  • For lower obstacles like a bench, approach at and angle so you

can cut the dog off with your knee, leaving them with only the

opportunity to jump onto the obstacle

  • Do not keep the leash tight at all times; walk with a loose leash

up to the obstacle and right before, run your hand down the

leash and guide the dog up

  • If the dog does not jump up you can go back and try it again OR

help them up with the leash

  • What will happen if the pressure is kept on the dog’s neck for too

    long?

  • Follow vs. lead – a dog will instinctually follow the Alpha

    • -  Have the students go over obstacles on umbilical

    • -  Dog follows your lead

Everything in life either comes from a planned foundation or one that had no plan.  If Foundation is given the respect it needs will flurish. Of course challenges will present themselves. Thus testing your foundation. The unplanned foundation will crumble in a short period of time.

Now lets step away for a moment from the arcitect of "Foundation"

Move yourself, your thoughts and why you are here. Dog, pet, companion, buddy, fur baby, family pet and even life line. One thing in common is a heartbeat. The dog needs you. The dog needs you to be the voice. The dog needs you to save it. You undoubtedly will be in a position to save a dogs life.

By bringing structure, balance, knowledge, education exercise. You will bring the foundation. No two foundations are identical. You will need to be smartly creative. I am trusting in each and everyone to do your part. Some days, evenings, nights will be difficult. The pay off is priceless. I remember looking into a dogs eyes and the kindness and thank you was our private conversation. A conversation that lived sixteen years. A happy ending!  Thank you, Brad Pattison
